The West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner has been suspended from her job because of a visit she made to the family of murder victim Kenichi Phillips.Yvonne Mosquito called on Mr Phillips’ family on Monday night, five days after the teenager was shot dead as he sat in a car in Ladywood.

Ms Mosquito, who is also a Labour councillor for the Nechells ward on Birmingham City Council, was informed of her suspension in an email late yesterday afternoon.
“I can confirm that David Jamieson, the Police and Crime Commissioner, has suspended me. I strenuously deny all of the allegations.”

In a statement, the Office of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner said:
“Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Yvonne Mosquito has been suspended from her post with immediate effect. An internal investigation is underway into potential gross misconduct following concerns raised about interference into operational policing regarding an on-going serious investigation.”
